Jinger Duggar of the Duggar family has begun courting professional soccer player Jeremy Vuolo, according to People. The couple met in May 2015 through Jinger’s sister Jessa and her husband Ben Seewald.
The Duggar daughters must court potential boyfriends with their father’s approval before entering a relationship. The children set their own boundaries but Jinger’s sisters Jessa and Jill went as far as not kissing their now husbands before their wedding day.
Here’s what you need to know.
1. Duggar Saw Vuolo’s ‘Heart’ Working on Mission Trips Together
Duggar, 22, and Vuolo, 28, met in May 2015 and shortly after began going on mission trips together. During these trips, the fourth oldest Duggar sister learned more about Vuolo and started seeing him a potential courtship partner.
“It was there that I really saw his heart and really admired his character,” she told People.
Jinger is the sixth oldest Duggar child behind Jessa, Jill, John-David, Jana and their disgraced older brother, Josh. Jill and Jessa are married, but her oldest sister Jana is still searching for her future husband.
2. The Couple Met Through Jinger’s Sister Jessa and Her Husband
Before meeting Jinger, Vuolo was good friends with her sister Jessa and husband Ben Seewald. He told People, “I was initially friends with Ben Seewald and Jessa, and it was through them that I got to meet Jinger. We are very excited to begin this journey together.”
He appears in many of the couple’s YouTube videos about Christianity and offers his advice as a pastor. He has weighed in on topics such as praying before meals and tips on how to pick a church.
3. The Next Season of ‘Jill & Jessa: Counting On’ Will Feature Jinger and Vuolo’s Relationship
The courtship between Jinger and Vuolo will be part of the upcoming season of TLC’s Jill & Jessa: Counting On, the spinoff of the Duggar family’s cancelled series, 19 Kids and Counting. The show will return for its second season later this summer.
4. Vuolo Took Leave from Soccer to Practice Ministry
Vuolo was born in Downington, Pennsylvania, west of Philadelphia, according to TLC. He attended Hartwick College and graduated from Syracuse University. After college he played for the Finnish football (soccer) club AC Oulu.
At age 12, Vuolo made the decision that he was going to become a professional soccer player and accomplished that goal in 2012 when he signed with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. After the club released him, he took a short break to practice ministry.
He stepped back onto the pitch in 2013 when he signed with the San Antonio Scorpions in the North American Soccer League. As a pastor, he has spoken at churches across the country.
5. Duggar Was Previously Linked to Lawson Bates of ‘Bringing Up Bates’
Last fall, Duggar was seen spending a lot of time with William “Lawson” Bates, who stars on the Up TV show, Bringing Up Bates. When Duggar’s cousin Amy questioned her about the relationship, Jinger laughed it off and said, “Rumors are rumors,” according to Entertainment Tonight.
