Kanye West shocked the Internet tonight with the release of his “Famous” music video. The song from his latest album, The Life of Pablo, features 12 well-known celebrities and politicians sleeping naked in bed together.
The “Famous” music video premiered at the Forum in Los Angeles on Friday night. Tidal also live streamed the star-studded event with 8,000 people in attendance including Kim Kardashian West, Kylie Jenner, Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Tyga, Game, Scott Disick, Kourtney Kardashian and French Montana, according to E! News.
The NSFW video features the 39-year-old rapper lying in bed naked with his wife Kim as well as George W. Bush, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner and Bill Cosby. All the women except Kim and Wintour are exposed, lying face-up.
The video begins with a snippet of Swift at an awards show and background audio of the MTV Video Music Awards. It then reveals all the sleeping bodies in one steady visual and closes with a text message thanking all the celebrities by name “for being famous.”
(We will post the full version if and when it becomes available.)
According to Vanity Fair, the video was filmed over three months, cycled through four different formats and several different collaborators. Besides the naked celebrities, he also filmed a scene with Jenner and a purple Porsche.
The naked bed scene was inspired by the painting “Sleep” by American realist painter Vincent Desiderio. In the interview with Vanity Fair, West also referred to artist Matthew Barney, known for his use of living sculptures in works like The Cremaster Cycle, as “my Jesus.”
“Famous” first played for the public during West’s fashion show at Madison Square Garden when he debuted his seventh studio album. The most noteworthy line name-dropped Swift and the two have gone back and forth on whether she approved the lyrics or not with the latest feud involving Kim.
“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” he rapped. “Why? I made that bitch famous.”
Twitter blew up with several trends relating to the video hitting the Top 10 including “Kanye,” “Caitlyn Jenner” and #TIDALXFAMOUS. It definitely left a lasting impression on those who watched it and had some questioning if the celebs featured in the video will sue.
