Lucas Till, 25, is the star of the new MacGyver series that will air on CBS Fridays this fall. He is back at San Diego Comic-Con to help promote the show, which presents a younger version of the famous character first played by Richard Dean Anderson.
Till is best known for his role as Havoc in the last three X-Men movies. According to Who’s Dated Who, Till was most recently dating actress Carlson Young, but they broke up in 2013. He also has a younger brother named Nick.
Here’s a look at Till’s life and career.
1. ‘X-Men’ Isn’t His Only Franchise, Since He’s Making ‘Monster Trucks’
Although Till starred in the X-Men movies as Alex Summers/Havok, that was more of a smaller role in a big ensemble cast. But he could have his own franchise soon, if Monster Trucks is a huge hit. The film is in post-production and stars Till as a high school senior who builds Monster Trucks. It opens in January 2017.
“It’s relaxing,” Till told ScreenRant when asked about playing a new character. “Because with X-Men, I was just nervous beforehand, nervous when I got it, nervous during the movie, and nervous after it came out for a year until I talked to as many people as I could and got a good range of people to tell me whether or not I messed it up!”
Unfortunately for Till, he’s back to playing a well-known character in MacGyver.
2. He Has a Painting of His Best Friend Hanging in His House
In a May 2016 interview with Architectural Digest, Till revealed that he has a painting of his best friend hanging above his fireplace. To make it even stranger, his friend is dressed as Conan the Barbarian. He said the painting was commissioned by his friend’s wife and he just left it as Till’s house when he moved.
Till also said in that same interview that the thing he splurged on after his big break was a television. “Then I did the same for my family members, whether they really cared for one or not,” Till told Architectural Digest. “Mostly so I could always view whatever I wanted, how I wanted, when I would be at their houses, but under the guise of, ‘Look what I got you. It’s a gift… for you!'”
Till’s first big role came back in 2003, when he starred in The Adventures of Ociee Nash, a film that also introduced Parenthood actress Amy Ellis.
3. Till Starred with Miley Cyrus in the ‘Hannah Montana’ Movie
After other small roles as a child actor – including playing a young Jack Cash in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line – Till landed the role of Travis Brody in Hannah Montana: The Movie opposite Miley Cyrus in 2009. Till even dated Cyrus briefly.
In an interview with MTV News while promoting Apocalypse and the movie Bordertown, Till said he still remembers some of the “Boom Boom Clap” dance.
“Yeah, but it’s always in pieces,” Till told MTV News. “I can do the whole thing, but it’s always in about three pieces, four pieces. I like get in, I get really into it, then I’ll be like nope, no that’s not it. Just like anyone. But yeah, I’ve embraced it.”
4. Till Also Dated Taylor Swift & Appeared in a Swift Music Video
Till starred as the Boy Next Door in the video for Taylor Swift‘s “You Belong With Me” in 2009. He also briefly dated her and admitted in a 2009 MTV News interview that Swift was the better kisser when compared to Cyrus.
“I think Taylor. I liked kissing Taylor a little more,” he replied when pressed to answer.
Their relationship was very shoot. The Hollywood Gossip reported in 2009 that he told MTV that they were “too nice” and got along too well.
“We dated for a little bit. But, there was no friction because we were too nice,” Till said at the time. “Most relationships work out cause you get along and then you don’t, and then you make up and its passionate, and with us I really just liked her as a friend. That’s the only reason that didn’t work out.”
5. Till is Acting With Former ‘CSI’ Star George Eads in ‘MacGyver’
When CBS viewers tune in to MacGyver, there will be at least one familiar face. George Eads, who starred on CSI as Nick Stokes from 2000 to 2015, is playing JAck Dalton, an experienced agent paired with MacGyver. Joshua Boone, who starred in 2015’s Fan Girl, is playing MacGyver’s high school friend.
Furious 7 director James Wan is an executive producer on the series. He was originally going to direct the pilot, but that job ended up going to David Von Ancken, a veteran TV director who helmed episodes of Code Black, Californication and Hell on Wheels.
