John Cho returns to play Sulu. Cho and the franchise stirred some controversy to decide to make Sulu a gay character, since the original character as played by George Takei, who is gay himself, was not gay. The film is going to show Sulu's husband, played by Doug Jung, but he told Vulture that the kiss was edited out. "It wasn't like a make-out session. We're at the airport with our daughter. It was a welcome-home kiss. I'm actually proud of that scene, because it was pretty tough," Cho said. (Getty)
