A model and actress has been identified as the woman who called 911 and said Chris Brown put a gun to her head at his Los Angeles home, leading to a police standoff with the singer that lasted several hours.
Brown was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, the Associated Press reports.
The singer posted videos on Instagram, which you can watch here, from inside the home, denying the accusations.
The Los Angeles Police Department said its robbery and homicide detectives were leading the investigation. Dozens of officers, including detectives, could be seen at Brown’s home.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. She Says She Has Partied With Brown in the Past & He Was ‘Always Nice’
Baylee Curran told TMZ she has partied with Chris Brown in the past, and said he was “always nice.” She said she once was at a pool party at Brown’s old home, along with Justin Bieber. But she told the gossip site he appeared to be out of it, possibly on drugs or alcohol.
Curran, 24, said she went to Brown’s house with a friend, and spent a little time in the hot tube before going back inside. She said the incident occurred after she was admired a piece of jewelry that was being displayed by a member of Brown’s “crew,” according to TMZ. She said Brown’s people demanded she sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The model and actress said Brown and others “went nuts” and Brown pulled a gun on her, demanding she “get the f**k out,” while pointing it at her. She says she tried to leave, but Brown’s people wouldn’t let her go, taking her cell phone and saying she couldn’t leave unless she signed the agreement. Curran told TMZ she didn’t sign the agreement and left with a friend.
Sources told TMZ that Curran and another woman were uninvited guests who came to the house with a man who was invited.
Curran posted a brief Instagram video Tuesday afternoon, firing back at social media users who have attacked her for causing the situation:
“Do you all honestly think I wanted this and I caused this,” Curran said in the video. “If somebody put a gun to your head, what would you do? Call the police?”
Police say the 3 a.m. 911 call came from outside the house. LAPD Lieutenant Chris Ramirez said at a brief press conference that officers went to Brown’s home about 3 a.m. for a woman requiring assistance.
“The incident involved the residence of Mr. Chris Brown, where officers responded and met with that person requiring that assistance,” Ramirez said. “There is currently an investigation going on.”
TMZ reports that Brown threw a duffel bag outside his window during the standoff, and police found at least one gun, weapons and drugs inside.
Brown is a felon, who was sentenced to five years in probation for a domestic assault case involving his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. His probation ended in 2015.
Brown had remained in the house from the 3 a.m. 911 call, and said he will not come out until police had a warrant.
TMZ reports Curran filed a police report and detectives obtained a search warrant. Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, was also at Brown’s home.
He was taken to a local police station for processing.
“I’m sitting here withering away… it’s the end of the room. I don’t give a f-ck. I’m not running from politics… what I do care about is you’re defacing my name, my character, and my integrity,” he says in one expletive-laden video. “I’m tired.” He said it was “something I didn’t do. F-ck this fame sh-t…”
Brown was released from custody on $250,000 bail.
2. She Was Stripped of Her Miss California Regional Title After Nude Photos Surfaced
Curran is an actress and has appeared in 10 movies and TV shows, according to her IMDB page.
She is also a beauty pageant contestant, mostly recently winning the 2016 Miss California Regional title, she says on Instagram.
But Curran was stripped of that title in July, Miss California Regional said on its Facebook page:
wanted to clarify some of the news posts today. Bayle [sic] Curran is not our titleholder. Miss Curran has been dethroned in July of this year due to breach of contract. She has been asked numerous times to return her crown/sash which she has refused to do. We do not condoned [sic] alleged actions of Mr. Brown or his associates however Miss Curran has incorrectly identified herself as Miss California Regional. We hold everyone in our organization to the highest standards in their moral values.
The pageant told TMZ they had issues with Curran, and the final straw came when nude photos surfaced. She told the director the photos weren’t her.
“This is not what the pageant stands for,” the pageant’s director told TMZ.
Curran missed several community functions and chose photo shoots over the events she was supposed to attend, according to pageant organizers.
Curran, who has worked as a professional model, also won the 2010 Miss Norco HorseWeek Rodeo Princess title, 2010 Jr. Miss Lake Elsinore pageant and the 2011 Jr. Miss Hesperia Rodeo Queen title.
Her IMDB biography says, “She is known for her lead roles in ‘Cold Blooded,’ ‘The Prodigal Son,’ and the International Hair Commercial for Moehair. She is on billboards in every country including the Middle East and Europe. Baylee currently holds the title of 2016 Miss California USA Ambassador and also Egypt’s 2016 Miss Love and Peace.”
3. She Was Investigated for Grand Larceny in 2013
Curran was herself the target of a criminal investigation in 2013, according to TMZ.
Sources told the gossip site she is still wanted for questioning in that incident, which occurred at a New York City hotel.
According to TMZ, Curran was with friends at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan when they began arguing. One of her friends claimed in police documents that Curran grabbed a $1,000 Louis Vuitton purse from her, which contained $200 in cash, along with credit cards and a Michael Kors wallet, and ran out of the hotel, TMZ reports.
She was chased by security, the friend claimed, and got away. A warrant was obtained by the NYPD that would’ve allowed police to bring her in for questioning, according to TMZ. The victim also got a restraining order against her in Los Angeles, the gossip site reports.
Curran’s representative told TMZ she was unaware she was wanted for questioning in New York City, and claimed another friend stole the wallet, not her.
