Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are headed for divorce, according to TMZ. The site reported that Jolie filed legal documents on Monday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. It was reported by Radar Online and Star Magazine just after their marriage that they did sign a prenuptial agreement to divvy out their assets if the marriage failed.
Radar Online reported that the prenuptial agreement says that Jolie will have most of the time with their six children if Pitt leaves her for another woman. That’s in line with the TMZ report, which says that Jolie requested sole physical and legal custody of the children and asked that a judge only grant Pitt visitation rights.
“If Brad gets too serious with another woman while they are married, she’ll get primary custody if they split,” a source told Radar.
A source told Page Six that a private eye spotted Pitt having an affair with Marion Cotillard, who he was making the film Allied with. However, TMZ’s report disputes that there was a “third person” involved and reports that Jolie filed for divorce because she was “upset” over Pitt’s parenting methods.
TMZ’s sources said that a person on the plane or a witness anonymously told authorities about the incident. Pitt and Jolie were already interviewed by DCFS and they plan on interviewing the children.
“He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light,” a source close to Pitt told TMZ.
A new TMZ report claims that the Los Angeles Police Department and LA County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating Pitt for alleged child abuse. Sources told the site that he “allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids” while on their private jet after getting drunk. Witnesses said that when the plane landed and the family got off, Pitt was still ranting on the tarmac.
The LAPD later told Us Weekly that there is child abuse investigation of Pitt.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,” Pitt said in a statement to People Magazine.
“Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time,” Jolie’s attorney added.
Pitt and Jolie have been together since 2004, but didn’t get married until August 2014. They are parents to six children, four of whom are adopted.
Pitt was previously married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. Their marriage ended in a $60 million divorce settlement in 2005.
