WATCH: Will Smith Meets Ideas in Person in ‘Collateral Beauty’ Trailer

If you’re looking for a reason to go to the movies on the weekend of December 16 that doesn’t involve Star Wars, Collateral Beauty will be your best option. The film stars Will Smith and just got its first teaser trailer.

Smith plats Howard Inlet, a New York advertising executive whose life goes into a downward spiral after a tragic event. His co-workers, played by Edward Norton and Kate Winslet hope to help him, but he only communicates by writing letters to ideas. One day, Death (Helen Mirren) shows up, followed by Love (Keira Knightley) and Time (Jacob Latimore).

The film had a troubled production and was originally supposed to be Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s follow-up to Me & Earl & The Dying Girl. It was also going to star Hugh Jackman in the Will Smith role and Rooney Mara. Jackman eventually left, as did Mara. Johnny Depp was considered, but Smith landed the role.

The script was penned by Allan Loeb (Things We Lost in the Fire, 21, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) and David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) was hired to direct.

For Smith, the film is another shot at his first Oscar nomination since 2007. He was in the conversation last year for Concussion, but ultimately only earned a Golden Globe nomination for that film. Smith also starred in Suicide Squad this year.

Collateral Beauty opens on December 16, the same day as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
