Pure Genius was created by Jason Katims, the same writer/producer behind Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. The show is completely different from both of those, though. Prew plays James Bell, a Silicon Valley tech billionaire who decides to give back to the community by building the high-tech Bunker Hill hospital, where he takes on challenging medical cases for free. He decides to bring in Dr. Walter Wallace, played by Mulroney, as his chief of staff. Initially, Wallace is skeptical of Bell’s technological perspective of medicine, but he warms up to it.

Once the show establishes its premise though, you can expect it to become a procedural, like most CBS shows, where each episode focuses on one medical case that’s somehow solved in 42 minutes.
