Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that Penny Dreadful actor Reeve Carney had been shopping for engagements rings with his girlfriend. But the gossip was just that– gossip. The article that reported Reeve’s ring excursion failed to mention who the mystery girlfriend was, and Carney hasn’t been photographed or seen with any other women since splitting from Twilight star Ashley Greene in 2012. Furthermore, only one news outlet reported he was ring shopping. So what’s the deal? Is Reeve single? Is he really getting engaged?
Here’s what we know.
Reeve’s most recent girlfriend appears to have been Ashley Greene, who he publicly dated for almost a year until they broke up in 2012 due to “conflicting schedules”, reports The Franchise Herald. In January of that year, The Daily Mail reported that the two were seen kissing while Greene took a break from filming her movie, Pan Am. The news outlet writes, “The couple took in the sights and smooched, cuddling and holding hands in the West Village.” By October, Greene and Carney’s hectic lives had gotten in the way of their romance. At the time, a source told USMagazine, “They are over. Reeve seems to be fine and it was just crazy with their schedules.”
Before Greene, Carney was linked to actress Jennifer Damiano, who he met during his run of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Damiano, 25, is perhaps best known for originating the role of Natalie Goodman in Next to Normal, for which she earned a Tony nomination. She starred opposite Carney as Mary Jane Watson.
Carney’s longest relationship was with Australian singer/songwriter, Lisa Origliasso, of the pop duo, ‘The Veronicas’. According to Australia’s News.com, Lisa’s sister, Jess, coincidentally dated Reeve’s brother, Zane. At the time, both sibling-bands were on tour together. Carney’s band with his brother, Zeeve, was simply called Carney, and they released their first album, ‘Mr. Green Vol 1’, in May 2010. In an interview with Confidential, Lisa said, “We don’t usually comment on our personal life … but as far as Carney go, I can safely say that Jess and I both have a place very close to our hearts for these guys and are so proud of the way they are taking Australia and the world by storm and will be there cheering them on every step of the way.”
So, for those girls out there with major crushes on Reeve, it looks like you may be in luck… when it comes to Carney being single, at least. His schedule, on the other hand, is as busy as ever, especially with the release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which airs tonight, October 20, at 8pm ET/PT, on FOX.
