‘Dancing With the Stars’ 2016: Who Won the Season 23 Finale?

Dancing With the Stars, Dancing With the Stars 2016, Who Won Dancing With the Stars Tonight, Dancing With the Stars 2016 Winner

Tonight was the season 23 finale of Dancing With the Stars, with the three remaining contestants Laurie Hernandez, Calvin Johnson Jr., and James Hinchcliffe each hoping to be the 2016 mirrorball trophy winner. So, who took the win tonight? The winner is … Laurie Hernandez.

The couple in third place tonight was Calvin Johnson Jr. and pro Lindsay Arnold. This meant that the competition was down to Hinchcliffe and Hernandez.

On tonight’s finale, all the cast-offs from the season returned to perform, along with their pro partners. And, there were several big numbers that took place at The Grove in Los Angeles. Vanilla Ice, Andy Grammer, Jana Kramer and Babyface each sang on the finale episode. Plus, bloopers from the season were shown, along with memorable moments for this season’s journey. The finalists carried out performances they enjoyed this season while the pro dancers performed their own sexy dances as well. Another fun moment was when the DWTS cast for the upcoming tour gave a performance to give viewers a preview at what’s in store. Cast members include Sharna Burgess, Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma Slater, and several other pro dancers from the show.

In addition to all the encore performances, each of the finalists had to perform a 24-hour fusion routine. The 24-hour dances are routines that each contestant and their pro come up with the night before the grand finale. It’s taxing and tiring, but they always manage to make it work.

Check out the opening performance from tonight’s grand finale in the below video clip.

I really believe that James should have won. He had NO experience in dancing at all and yet he did so well ,it was if dancing should have been his career.

Laurie is a gymnast, not a ballroom dancer, so both she and James had virtually no ballroom dance experience. She’s young and knows how to stay focused and stick it when it counts. James made some very visable mistakes at a time when his performance needed to be flawless. He wasn’t focused. Before semifinals and finals, he did an excellent job! They all did! Everyone worked hard and I think they all deserved to win but fortunately, there could only be one winner. CONGRATULATIONS LAURIE!!!

Laurie had dance training as part of her gymnastics regimen. Not ballroom…but then how much of DWTS is truly ballroom these days.

And the only mistakes made in the semifinals and finale were by CarrieAnn I and Sharna tripping on her own skirt.
