I Want A Dog was first broadcast on December 9, 2003, so it’s a much more recent special compared to the other holiday classics in the Peanuts canon. In this one, Linus and Lucy’s younger brother Rerun wants his own dog after being impressed by the relationship between Snoopy and Charlie Brown. Snoopy doesn’t enjoy playing with Rerun, so he writes to his brother Spike in California. Spike agrees to visit, but Rerun’s mother doesn’t like having Spike around.

Unlike other Peanuts specials, I Want a Dog runs 41 minutes, so it fills a full hour-long block on network television.

After tonight, ABC has more Peanuts waiting. A Charlie Brown Christmas airs again on Thursday, December 22. On Monday, December 26, ABC will air Happy New Year, Charlie Brown and She’s A Good Skate, Charlie Brown.
