Westworld has been a wonderful show with intricate layers-upon-layers. It seems destined to be the next Game of Thrones for HBO and could reach the level of popularity that Lost enjoyed. J.J. Abrams definitely has another hit on his hands. But now that the first season has ended far too soon, when does the second season begin? Unfortunately, it will likely be farther away than you’re hoping.
First, the good news. Westworld has indeed been renewed for a second season. Season 2 will run for 10 episodes, just like Season 1, according to EW.
We don’t know, however, exactly when the premiere date will be. This year, Westworld premiered in October. Unfortunately, there’s a chance that we won’t be seeing an October 2017 premiere date for Season 2. Casey Bloys, HBO programming president, told EW that Westworld might not return until 2018. He said the size of the world, what’s involved in filming the show, and the intricacy of the scripts might require a 2018 premiere date. However, he added, this is only his suspicion. He doesn’t have a specific date in mind. In fact, he elaborated on this with The Hollywood Reporter, emphasizing that the premiere could still be in 2017, he just really doesn’t know a year in advance.
The second season is going to be just as fun and mysterious as Season 1, Bloys added, but it will be completely original. And Evan Rachel Wood, who plays Dolores, told IndieWire that Season 2 is going to be “warp speed” compared to Season 1. The first season, she said, was really just setting up the background for the second.
