‘Alaskan Bush People’ Cast: Meet the Brown Family

"Alaskan Bush People" Cast

The Brown family enters season 4 of their reality series Alaskan Bush People and, as a cast of outdoorsmen and women, this group bans together to try to live off the grid in "Browntown." The show documents the Brown family's life in the wilderness on Chichagof Island, Alaska. In the past, the family has had to overcome medical problems with their parents as well as the family has voiced they aren't as fond of modern medicine. They have also been involved in some legal issues as well. In 2014, a Juneau grand jury indicted the Browns with 60 counts of first-degree unsworn falsification regarding Permanent Fund Dividend forms as well as theft that took place from 2009 - 2012. Dad Billy was charged with 24 of these counts and for the theft of $13,000 in dividend money. In the beginning of 2016, Dad Billy and son Joshua pleaded guilty to lying on PFD forms, as reported by CNN. Billy and Joshua Brown were accused of collecting money from a state fund for residents when they were living elsewhere. The two men admitted that from October 2009 until August 2012, the Browns left their home but continued to collect their part of the state's oil money, totaling $20,938 in PFD checks. Juneau Empire reported that the two Brown men had to serve 30 days in jail for their crimes, plus Billy Brown had to "pay a $10,000 fine within 90 days of being released from jail, pay back the $7,956 in PFD money he collected illegally, complete 40 hours of community work service that cannot be filmed for the TV show and to do a year of probation." Joshua Brown's financial penalties were a $5,000 fine with $3,000 suspended.
