How different would the world be without Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark? That important question will be answered in the midseason premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The show moves to a new night, starting on Tuesday, January 24. It airs at 9 p.m. ET, right after The Flash. Read on for a preview of the episode.
In “Raiders of the Lost Art,” the main goal for the Legends is to finally get Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) back after finding him in 1967. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know that he’s Rip Hunter, so they have to convince him to go with them. Meanwhile, their mission is made a little difficult because an Aberration is making it hard for Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) to help.
That Aberration turns out to be George Lucas – the creator of Star Wars – dropping out of film school. Since Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark never exists, Nate and Ray lose their inspirations to become historians and scientists.
“Because of circumstances, the time aberration in episode 209 is George Lucas quits film school,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly. “As a result, he never makes Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist.”
Matt Angel, who appeared in an episode of Grimm and starred in Sweet/Vicious, plays a young George Lucas.
