1. Dentistry Is Her Career
Currently, Mittenaere is studying dental surgery and hopes to spread awareness about the importance of oral hygiene. She is 23 years old and she has been studying dentistry for the last five years. She originally hails from Northern France in a town called Lille.
2. She Commented About Keeping Borders Open In Her Interview Question At the Pageant
With all the protests and comments surrounding issues with closing borders and banning other countries from entering the United States, Miss France got hit with a heavy question about her feelings on the issue. USA Today reveals her response as this:
In France, we want to have the most globalization that we can, we want to have the biggest exchange of people that we can.
3. The Last Miss Universe Winner From France Was Decades Ago
This is the first time France has won this pageant in decades. The last time that someone from France won was in 1953, at the second ever competition. Christiane Martel was the 18-year-old winner and she was also an actress. The runner-up from this year’s pageant was Miss Universe contestant Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier.
4. Mittenaere Loves to Cook
Mittenaere is all about the romance of her country and about cooking. She loves to be in the kitchen and even jokingly invited Miss Universe host Steve Harvey to try one of her specialty dishes. Harvey’s reply was that his wife won’t let him. According to Mittenaere’s Miss Universe bio:
Mittenaere has always been fond of extreme sports, travelling the world and cooking new French dishes. Fresh, funny and caring is how she would best describe herself. She enjoys making others happy, especially when volunteering at Bienvenue-Tongasoa and Les Bonnes Fées. Mittenaere is honored to be representing France in the upcoming Miss Universe competition.
5. The New Miss Universe Takes Over For Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach
Tonight, Pia Wurtzbach had to relinquish her crown to the winner. Throughout the evening, she assisted Harvey in joking about his major flub from last year’s pageant. When it was time for Harvey to announce the new Miss Universe, Wurtzbach interrupted him to give him a large pair of reading glasses to wear.
