The wait for the second half of This Is Us to start is almost over. The midseason premiere for the three-time Golden Globe nominee will air on Tuesday, January 10 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. The show typically airs at 9 p.m. ET, but it is being delayed by an hour due to President Barack Obama’s farewell address. Read on for a preview of the new episode and a look at where we last left the Pearson family.

For those who still need a quick run-down on This Is Us, it’s strongly recommended that you check out the first 10 episodes of season one. The show, created by Dan Fogelman, centers on the Pearson family in two different time periods. In the past, we see Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) raising their twins Kate and Kevin and their adopted son Randall. In the present, we find Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) all grown up and still struggling to find their place in the world and coming to terms with the secrets of their past. Rebecca is married to Jack’s friend Miguel (Jon Huertas) in the present.

The most recent episode of This Is Us was “Last Christmas,” in which the Pearson family got together for what should have been a happy Christmas. Kate’s ex-boyfriend Toby (Chris Sullivan) even showed up to surprise her, but he suffered a heart attack. The episode ended with him on the operating table and it’s not known if he survived.

Meanwhile, Kevin has a new love interest in playwright Sloane (Milana Vayntrub). Randall also found out that his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones) is gay. William took his former boyfriend Jesse (Denis O’Hare) to the Christmas party as the two try to patch up their relationship.

The new episode of This Is Us is titled “The Right Thing To Do.” In the episode, Kate and Randall have to come to terms with the new developments in their lives, while Olivia (Janet Montgomery) shows up, complicating Kevin’s relationship with Sloane. In the past, Rebecca and Jack learn that they are having triplets. (In the pilot episode, their third baby died in childbirth.)

This Is Us was nominated for Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series/Made-For-TV Movie/Miniseries for Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz at the 2017 Golden Globes.
