WATCH: Mary Tyler Moore’s SAG Lifetime Achievement Speech

Mary Tyler Moore made her final major public appearance in 2012, when she accepted the 18th Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild. It was just a year after she had elective brain surgery to remove a benign meningioma.

Dick Van Dyke, Moore’s co-star on The Dick Van Dyke Show, stood right by her side as she spoke to the audience, filled with her Hollywood colleagues.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Van Dyke wrote, “There are no words. She was THE BEST! We always said that we changed each other’s lives for the better. I watched her grow into the incredible talent that she became. There won’t be another one like her.”

After that speech, she was not seen in public. However, in 2013, she was seen at an airport and signed autographs for fans.

In 2013, she also appeared on Hot In Cleveland with her other Mary Tyler Moore Show stars. It was her last appearance in a scripted program.
