On February 14th, 2016 Chicago emcee Kanye West released his 7th full-length solo album “The Life of Pablo”. After numerous delays, name changes and Twitter drama the album was released on Jay-Z’s streaming service Tidal. Kanye West called “The Life of Pablo” a ‘living breathing‘ album. This meant that Kanye West would be updating the album after its release. We’ve already seen songs like ‘Saint Pablo’ get added and other tracks like ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1‘ & ‘Waves’ be reenginnered.
20 tracks deep “The Life of Pablo” boosted production from Madlib, Metro Boomin’, Charlie Heat, Plain Pat and more. Vocal features include Frank Ocean, Chance the Rapper, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Chris Brown and more. “The Life of Pablo” is also nominated for four Grammys this year, here are five facts to bring you up to speed.
1. ‘The Life of Pablo’s Net Worth at $2.1million
My album will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale… You can only get it on Tidal.

Kanye West continues to be one of the most prolific and popular artists of our time. Gaining credit for 94,000 album sales, ‘The Life of Pablo’ is Kanye West’s least profitable album making $11 million less than his last album “Yeezus“.
This information comes after a year when Kanye West tweeted about being in debt. In that same string of tweets West mentioned being in $53million of debt and asked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet CEO Larry Page for financial help.
Some of this debt comes from the fact that Kanye West was actually sued for deceving listeners into subscribing for the music service Tidal by stating ‘The Life of Pablo’ would be a Tidal-ONLY exclusive as reported by Pitchfork. “The Life of Pablo” may have exclusively released on Tidal in February of 2016, however at the end of March the album was available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and the like.
2. ‘Famous’ is the highest charting single from ‘The Life of Pablo’
The Rihanna assisted “Famous” ended 2016 as the 34th best single of the year according to Billboard. The controversy surrounding Kanye West continued after the album’s release with the debut of the ‘Famous’ Music Video.
The video depicted naked versions of celebrities all in bed together. The list includes former president George W. Bush, current president Donald Trump, singers Chris Brown, Taylor Swift and more. This created conflict with Taylor Swift, which continues the string of clashing between the two spanning since the MTV VMA incident in 2009. In ‘Famous’ Kanye West says “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that b*tch Famous”.
3. ‘The Life of Pablo’ debuted at #1
Controversy surrounded “The Life of Pablo”. Originally the project was called ‘Waves’ and there was Twitter beef between Kanye and Wiz Khalifa. Despite the controversy, the album debuted at number one. ‘The Life of Pablo’ also marks Kanye West’s seventh straight number one album going all the way back to Kanye’s debut album ‘The College Dropout’.
Boosting guest features from Kid Cudi, Chance the Rapper, Post Malone and more, the Chicago emcee was able to capitalize and make a strong opening week debut. Dropping eight singles throughout the album’s campaign, Kanye was able to draw up enough support to sell out many of his shows for the Saint Pablo tour.
4. ‘The Life of Pablo’ marked the return of Frank Ocean
After Frank Ocean’s debut album “Channel Orange” took the world by storm in 2012, the Odd Future artist seemed to have disappeared. That is until he appeared for only 45 seconds on the single ‘Frank’s Track’.
Speculation of Frank’s return and sophomore album increased after his appearance on “The Life of Pablo”. He was present at Kanye’s presentation of the album at the Yeezy Season 3 premiere at Madison Square Garden, but we didn’t get any music from the artist. This eventually would lead to Frank Ocean releasing his second and third albums in ‘Endless’ & ‘Blonde’.
5. Kanye West never finished touring ‘The Life of Pablo’
The controversial release of “The Life of Pablo” did not deter Kanye West from selling out many of his ‘Saint Pablo’ shows including Madison Square Garden. Noisey even called it “The Best Concert of All Time”.
In October Kanye cancelled a performance mid-show in New York after learning that his wife Kim Kardashian had been robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Not even two months after that Kanye cancelled the final 21 dates of the tour. The night before canceling the tour Kanye had been admitted to the hospital. Some believe Kanye lost around $30 million from canceling the tour.
