‘American Gods’: What Time & Channel Is It on?

Tonight is the series premiere of American Gods on Starz. The show follows the life of Shadow Moon, a man serving three years in prison but who is released early after his wife, Laura, is killed. Now out of prison, Shadow finds what he thinks is a simple bodyguard job for a a man named Wednesday. As it turns out, Wednesday is the god Odin, and is traversing America in the hopes of gathering all the old gods to face off against the new gods.

The show was developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green for Amazon Prime. At one point, it was rumored that the series would be picked up by HBO, but in July 2014, it was confirmed that American Gods would be airing on Starz. It was greenlit on June 16, 2015.

Ricky Whittle’s role as the lead was announced in January 2016, and two months later, it was revealed that Ian McShane would be playing Mr. Wednesday. In an interview with Den of Geek, Bryan Fuller discussed how the show differs from the book. When asked how he was able to pull off such huge changes in the script and still keep the interest of the book’s cult followers, he said, “I think because Michael [Green] and I are as big a fan of the book as everyone else and we were fortunate enough to be in a position where we could ensure… that we want to secure our place in the audience to make sure that American Gods is the version of the show that we want to see as an audience member. I hope that we are like-minded enough with others who are as passionate about the book so that they see something that relates and resonates with them with the choices that we’re making so it’s really about staying true to our faith in the book.”
