1. Teretha Is a Former Coordinator for the City of Detroit Health Department’s Healthy Eating Program
Teretha used to work as a program coordinator for the City of Detroit’s Health Department. After she lost her job, she turned to food for comfort, according to the Daily Mail.
When we last saw her on My 600-lb Life, Teretha went from 800-lb to 461-lb with the help of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan. On her way to Texas to meet the weight loss surgeon, she risked blood clots forming in her legs, but was determined to go through with the surgery.
2. She Has Said Her Weight Gain Stems From an Encounter With a Family Member in Her Youth
When she was 11, Teretha was molested by her uncle, according to the Daily Mail, which led to rapid weight gain.
At 15, Teretha learned she was pregnant.
Over a year ago, Teretha’s husband, Derrick, created a GoFundMe page seeking financial support for the family’s move to Texas. In the page’s description, Derrik writes, “In the pass four years she have missed out on so much. She missed the birth of our grandson, she missed so many family activities, all of the holidays with the entire family, she miss going to church, but most of all she miss being INDEPENDENT!! It’s HARD being disabled and she wanna be here for her family &friends. So if you could/would support my wife cause I would consider it truly a BLESSING!”
3. Chad Went From Nearly 700 Lbs to 400 Lbs
During his impressive run on My 600-lb Life, Chad made an impressive drop from 700 lbs to 400 lbs.
Before losing the weight, his legs were 85-90 inches around at one time. “I was in size eight to ten ‘X’ shirts,” he told KBTX.
In Chad’s family’s interview when they first appeared on My 600-Lb Life, his wife, Ayesha, and daughter, Taqua, discuss the burden they carry looking after Chad.
Speaking about their daughter, Taqua, Chad’s wife says, “She carries the burden of a parent at 10-years-old. She doesn’t mind doing the things, but it bothers me. She’s ten-years-old. She should be able to be a kid she should be able to do what kids do.”
4. He Credits His Community With Helping Him Lose the Weight
Chad moved from Maryland to Bryan, Texas, during his weight loss journey, and credits the southern hospitality in Bryan with helping him stay motivated to lose the weight. In an interview with KBTX last year, Chad spoke about his surgery, saying, “I would do it again in a minute. To feel the way I feel now, and am hoping to feel six months from now. It’s amazing, it’s day and night.”
5. He Lost His Job as a Trucker Because of His Weight
Chad worked as a truck driver, where he unwittingly began to gain a majority of his weight. While driving, he would snack on unhealthy foods and even drink a 12-pack of soda a day, according to the Daily Mail. The outlet reports that once he reached 500lbs, Chad was no longer able to get into the truck or drive it, and he was forced to leave his job.
Chad being out of a job forced his wife to find one. He tells the cameras, “There’s a lot of days I wonder if this is the day Ayesha has had enough… What’s her breaking point before she finally says I can’t do it no more?”
