Chelsea Handler was on The View on Monday morning, where she sat down to chat about a few things — President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump being among them — and she didn’t hold back. The comedian took aim at President Trump a few times — and seemed to defend Mrs. Trump at least once.
Handler kicked off her Trump-smack-talk by saying that she hoped Saudi Arabia would keep the President of the United States. However, she quickly added that she would be fine having the First Lady returned home.
“Well, I mean. I’m hoping they keep him. It would be nice if they just took him, you know, and kept him, and treated him like, I don’t know, they treat the women over there. I’d take Melania back,” Handler said, causing laughter at the desk and throughout the studio audience.
The women on The View then shifted their focus to a video of the Trumps that surfaced earlier today. The video shows the President reaching for his wife’s hand as they walked on a red carpet that was rolled out for them at the Tel Aviv airport. This action reignited Twitter chatter about Trump’s marriage and a rumored unhappy Melania, portrayed by the media — and by her own actions. Whether it is her facial expressions, body language, or her unwillingness to hold her husband’s hand from time to time, Melania Trump has given the media a lot to work with when it comes to analyzing the current state of the couple’s marriage.
While no one knows what goes on behind closed doors, Handler would like to see Melania Trump make a move to legally end her marriage to the President. The star of Chelsea Lately said that Mrs. Trump would be an “American Hero” if she decided to get a divorce.
“I have, like, a fantasy. Like, I want Melania just to finally come out, divorce him. She would be an American hero. We would embrace her if she just said, ‘listen, this guy’s disgusting and I know all of his dirty secrets and I’m willing to tell everybody,” Handler said.
“Wasn’t there a rumor that if he didn’t win, they were going to get a divorce?” Joy Behar asks, turning to Handler. Behar adds that it’s just a rumor and that no one should quote her.
“You can quote me,” Handler responded. “I believe that to be true.”
It’s no secret that Handler doesn’t care much for Donald Trump. In fact, before he became POTUS, Trump sent a fairly nasty tweet to Handler.
