Gwen Stefani introduced Cher tonight at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, calling her a trailblazer and a humanitarian. Cher delivered an energetic performance of her eternal hit “Believe” in the spirit of being honored with the Icon Award.
Though Cher is 71 years old, that doesn’t mean she’s slowing down. Cher stepped out in a blond wig and a barely-there rhinestone outfit, full of fringe. Cher even donned a thong. Diva does not even describe this woman.
Stars like Vanessa Hudgens couldn’t help but jam out to Cher in the audience, dancing and singing along.
Cher’s is a career that has spanned for decades. She was known for her collaboration with Sonny Bono and the two turned out hit after hit, with songs like “I’ve Got You Babe.” They even had their own variety show.
Soon, Cher made her mark as a solo artist and an actress in film and stage. She’s an Academy Award and Grammy winner, among other things. She’s also a major singer and is a record-breaker.
Following a short video montage of Cher’s history in entertainment, another band started to play and Cher emerged in an all-black afro wig. She was decked out in a sheer, black body stocking and a rocker-showgirl body suit. She then delivered a performance of her song “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
Son Chaz Bono smiled and swayed to his mother’s music from the audience, just like the rest of the room.
After her second performance, Gwen Stefani presented Cher with the Billboard Icon Award. In her speech, Cher said that she’s been in show business for over five decades and that she turned 71 years old just yesterday.
Also tonight, star Rita Ora decided to channel her inner-Cher with a thong at the awards show as well. When Ora revealed to Jason Kennedy of E! News that Cher was her inspiration for the look, Ora said:
She’s 71, you guys. That’s amazing. So that is probably why I have this situation going on. She has the black thong on. I need to be inspired so I was just rocking it and moving it. Why not?
