Actor and comedian Christopher “Big Black” Boykin has passed away. He was 45 years old. According to TMZ, his rep tells us Boykin died Tuesday morning from a heart attack.

Boykin is best known as the best friend and bodyguard of the MTV reality series Rob & Big. Along with his “partner-in-crime” Rob Dyrdek, the duo got into a mess of outrageous adventures. But there was more to Boykin than his reality TV persona, and to commemorate his passing, we take a look back at his family, his career, and the Guinness World Records he set along the way.

Boykin’s greatest claim to fame is undoubtedly his tenure as a bodyguard on Rob & Big. He and Dyrdek quickly became popular for their brand of outlandish humor. Each episode consisted of a central task in the lives of both Rob and Big, like skateboarding, purchasing animals, and in one especially silly episode, installing an ATM machine. Check out a clip of the show above.

The show came to a close in 2008 when Boykin’s girlfriend became pregnant, but he and Dyrdek, despite a falling out of sorts, would reunite on Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory in 2015. Boykin would go on to be a regular from season four onward.

2. He Launched His Own Clothing Line In 2012

Boykin created the clothing line Big Black (Do Work) in 2007, but after a shaky start, the line was relaunched with new partners in 2012. The brand saw plenty of success due to the exposure it received on the final season of Rob & Big, as Boykin could often be seen sporting either a Big Black hat or t-shirt with the logo.

Big Black also specialized in larger sizes, given Boykin’s own plus size, and stocked shirts that were available up to 6x (for both men and women). He had plans to start up Big Black footwear, but unfortunately, those plans were cut short. You can still purchase Big Black merchandise on the Celebrity Clothing Line website.

3. He Held Two Guinness World Record

These are some of the most memorable moments from Rob & Big. There was a weekly segment on the show were Dyrdek and Boykin attempted to break Guinness World Record. Dyrdek broke many in his allotted time, including most heel flips in one minute, most consecutive ollies, longest stationary manual, most switch frontside kickflips in one minute, and most nollie kickflips in one minute. In total, he set 21 Guinness World Records.

Boykin only broke two, but to his credit, they were two of the most enjoyable in the entire series. First off was the world record for peeling and eating the most bananas in one minute– which amounted to three, and second, and even more impressive, was the most powdered donuts eaten in less than three minutes– five donuts in two minutes and 45 seconds. You can watch episodes of Rob & Big at MTV.com or purchase them on Amazon.

4. He Was Married In 2008

Boykin married his longtime girlfriend Shannon Boykin in 2008 in a private ceremony that was reportedly attended by many celebrities and industry figures. They dated throughout Rob & Big being on the air, but upon Shannon’s pregnancy, Boykin decided to leave the show to focus more on his family. Boykin and Shannon welcomed a daughter named Isis Rea Boykin later that year.

There was controversy at the time as to whether there had been a falling out between Boykin and Dyrdek, but the comedian later explained what happened in an interview with Graham Bensinger: “It was a strange period, because both me and him… I had been a pro skateboarder for years, so transitioning into the mainstream was relatively smooth where for him it was the idea that he was working security two years earlier and how he’s on television. I didn’t want to be known as Rob from Rob & Big and he didn’t want to be known as the sidekick. So that created a lot of tension between me and him.” The two would later squash their differences.

5. He Had An Estimated Net Worth of $3 Million

Boykin first saw monetary success as a celebrity bodyguard, and in a 2006 interview he went as far as liken himself to Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard (1992), claiming that while Costner might “be able to outrun him,” he when it comes to putting hands on somebody, “Costner can’t f**k with that, done deal– Field of Dreams for that guy.” Watch the full clip here.

After Rob & Big took off, however, the 6’6” former marine found even greater success by parlaying his winning personality into various outlets. With the combined earnings from his television appearances (which include Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy FactoryRidiculousness, The B-List, and Sk8 Life), his clothing label Big Black, his videogame series Skate, and his still-fledgling security business Big Black Security, Boykin amassed an estimated net worth of $3 million during his lifetime.
