Over the past 13 seasons, the show has landed some A-list celebrities who have come and gone, including Katherine Heigl, Sara Ramirez, and Patrick Dempsey. Pomeo tells Variety that if and when the show comes to an end, she hopes to turn her attention towards producing with her production company, Calamity Jane, and she's also interested in adding some directing to her resume. In March, Pompeo made her directorial debut on Grey's, and explained that it took so long to do so because she's, well, one of the busiest people around. "I’m already there really a lot of hours. Directing is even more hours. The idea of spending more time there really has never appealed to me. So basically that’s it... As far as creativity on ‘Grey’s,’ you’re kind of trapped in a hospital and there’s only so much you can do, so I wasn’t that excited about it creatively.” Over time, however, she was convinced by Debbie Allen, who hires all the directors for the show, to give it a shot. Asked by Variety if Allen and Shonda Rimes had been asking her to direct an episode for years, Pompeo said, "To be honest, no one has ever asked me before. I have a pretty busy home life — I have three kids, and one of the things I’m proudest about is being able to achieve a really healthy balance. Not only do I have a great job on this show that continues to be super successful, but I have a great home life, and I cherish that a lot." (ABC)
Tonight, actor Matthew Alan will play the boy’s father on Grey’s Anatomy. Fans of the show may recognize Alan– he’s dating Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson) in real life. The couple just gave birth to their first child together, Hayden, in April. Luddington announced the news in an Instagram post that read, “I am SO excited to FINALLY share with you all news that I’ve managed to keep secret for what seems like forever now… I am pregnant!!!!!! This girl gets to be a ‘cool mom’ ha!” Recently, Alan appeared in the talked-about Netflix series 13 Reasons Why as Seth, who dates Justin’s mom on the show. Other credits on his resume include Lethal Weapon, Scorpion, Longmire, Major Crimes, NCIS: New Orleans, The Night Shift, The Mentalist, and Murder in the First.
