Her other TV credits include Guiding Light, Pretty Little Liars, The Carrie Diaries, Switched at Birth, The Fosters, Jane the Virgin, iZombie, Forever, How to Get Away with Murder, and Shameless. According to her website, Fuentes began her directing career in New York theater, and worked on a number of Off-Broadway productions, like Safe by Ron Fitzgerald,The Given, and Late Fragment. She was recently elected to be a member of the Alternate Board to the Directors Guild of America's National Board. Elizabeth Finch, who wrote tonight's episode, is best known for her work on HBO's True Blood. In an op-ed piece she wrote for Elle Magazine, Finch discussed her personal life and an incident that forced her to come to terms with the realities of privilege, luck, and abortion. In the piece, she reveals that she is a survivor of a rare bone cancer, and that she spent months searching for effective experimental treatments to get rid of the cancer. The outcome of her chemo, Finch explains, was an "obliterated" immune system, and "shredded" lungs", and eventually, the writer was told she was infertile. She ended up becoming pregnant, anyways. "I was suddenly living my worst-case scenario, after years of believing I already was. I was pregnant. But I couldn't be," she writes. Finch was forced to choose between having the baby and staying healthy. She couldn't have both. "...if I continued with the medication, there was a high likelihood the fetus wouldn't survive, or if it did, it would likely have severe intellectual and physical deficits." Finch knew that in order to stay alive, she had to terminate the pregnancy, and that's exactly what she did. To read the emotional and informative piece, click here. (ABC)
