Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 is finally in theaters, three years after the first film became the surprise blockbuster of 2014. No one really expected a film about a group of obscure Marvel characters to be a box office sensation that summer, especially when that group included a cybernetically-enhanced raccoon and a talking tree. But Marvel proved that everything it touches turns to gold and the film rode critical praise and positive word of mouth to $773.3 million worldwide.
The new film brings back the main cast, as well as writer/director James Gunn. This time, the group has to save the galaxy (again), with the help of Nebula (Karen Gillan), Yondu (Michael Rooker) and a new character to the movies, Mantis (Pom Klementieff). Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) also finally meets his father, Ego (Kurt Russell). Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Dax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), along with Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) are all back in action. so far, the film has earned praise, with an 85 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes after 192 reviews. The first film has a 91 percent fresh rating at the site.
GOTG2 is Chris Pratt's only film for 2017. The actor appeared in both The Magnificent Seven and Passengers in 2016.
