Olivia Newton-John has reluctantly announced that she is postponing her concert tour dates in the United States and Canada next month. In a statement released on social media, she said that the back pain that had initially caused her to postpone the first half of her tour has turned out to be breast cancer. Newton-John’s representatives went on to write:
“The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum. In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.”
Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, where she underwent chemotherapy and breat reduction. She will now be undergoing a yreatment of photon radiation therapy, and says that she is confident she will be back “better than ever.” Among those supporting her during this trying time is her husband John Easterling and her daughter Chloe Rose Lattanzi.
To learn more about Chloe Rose and her relationship with her mother, check out these five fast facts.
1. Her Father Is Actor Matt Lattanzi
Olivia Newton-John and Matt Lattanzi first met while filming the musical fantasy Xanadu in 1980. The film marked Lattanzi’s film debut, and the actor’s subsequent credits would go on to include Rich and Famous (1981), Grease 2 (1982), Roxanne (1987), and Catch Me If You Can (1989). He and Newton-John were married in 1984, and gave birth to their first and only child, Chloe Rose, on January 17, 1986.
Growing up in the shadow of two celebrity parents took its toll on Chloe Rose, who, according to Daily Mail, developed a “$130-a-day cocaine addiction” and a daily routine of “self-medicating,” which included drinking a bottle of vodka a day and mixing alcohol with prescription sedative Xanax.” Chloe Rose attributes much of this to being raised around the celebrity lifestyle, saying “I don’t blame my mother for my problems, but I would never want to be famous or raise a child around the cult of celebrity.”
Newton-John and Lattanzi ended their marriage in 1995. Lattanzi remained involved with his daughter’s career, however, and in 2008, he appeared on the MTV reality series Rock the Cradle opposite Chloe Rose, who was a contestant. Lattanzi currently resides in Malibu, California.
2. She Is Also A Singer
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Chloe Rose has also pursued a career as an entertainer. She began at a young age, appearing in various projects starring her mother, including the television movies Olivia Down Under (1988), Olivia Newton-John: Warm and Tender (1989) and A Christmas Romance (1994). As she got older, her television presence remained consistent, including several appearances on Rock the Cradle (2008), Entertainment Tonight (2008-15), and Access Hollywood (2017).
Chloe Rose has also pursued a career in singing, similar to her mother. She penned the song “Can I Trust Your Arms” off of Olivia Newton-John’s album Stronger Than Before in 2005, before releasing her debut single “Wings and a Gun” in 2010. Her full-length album No Pain was released in 2016. In the press release for the album, Chloe Rose wrote: “I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m happy with who I am. When I was making No Pain thirteen years ago, it was never good enough in my mind. So I would redo the tracks over and over again. Perfection was important to me.”

3. She Has Undergone Several Plastic Surgeries
Elsewhere, controversy surrounding Chloe Rose has stemmed from her physical appearance. Or rather, how much her physical appearance has changed over the years. Publications like Life & Style and The Sun have released articles about Chloe Rose, comparing before and after photos of her, but the singer never addressed these rumors until earlier this year. Page Six reports that Chloe Rose has undergone around $550,000 worth of plastic surgery, “from nose jobs to breast augmentations, Botox and filler.” This usurps even the $415,000 that the Daily Mail had speculated the year before.
“All those things were a disaster,” said Chloe Rose, who also suffers from body dysmorphia, “Not only did the lip implants look ridiculous, the first boob op I had in Australia when I was 18 left me looking mutilated.” Fortunately, Chloe Rose did say that the recent alterations she has made to her appearance has left her feeling more confident: “Now I’m a 32DD and I love my body and love showing my new boobs off. Mum supported my surgery decisions because she knew how unhappy I was before.”
Chloe Rose has been frank about her past struggles with alcohol and body image, telling Daily Mail that it was “hard to be in the shadow of someone so incredible and perfect, and I’m far from perfect. I’ve been through a lot of things, and having millions of people watch those things and judge me without knowing me has actually perpetuated those problems.”
4. She Is Opening A Marijuana Farm With Her Fiancé
In 2016, Daily Mail reported that Chloe Rose used a loan that her mother had given her to move to Oregon with her fiancé James Driskill and open a marijuana farm. The loan was given with the intention of letting Chloe Rose out of show business and settle down, at least, according to a family insider: “Olivia’s under the impression she’s helping Chloe and James get a good start to their life, but growing weed is not what she had in mind. The last thing Olivia wants is for people to think she’s investing money into what’s still considered a drug by the rest of the world.”
Daily Mail also reports that while Newton-John is against the idea, Chloe Rose’s father and stepfather are being more supportive. “The only consolidation for [Olivia] is the fact that John and Matt are heavily involved in the project,” says the insider. In January of this year, Chloe Rose posted a photo of herself in front of various marijuana plants. She captioned the photo: “Healing power of the earth. #cbdoil #cancercuresupporter.” Her Instagram account is currently set to private.
Earlier this month, Chloe Rose appeared on The Morning Show to discuss her reasoning for opening a marijuana farm, saying “Cannabis is really important, it prevents the growth of cancer cells in the body. As you know, my mum went through that. I wanted to become a part of a business that was about natural healing.” Watch the full interview above.
5. She Has Supported Her Mother Through Her Health Scares
While they may not have always seen eye to eye, it has been readily apparent since Olivia Newton-John’s initial cancer diagnosis that her daughter is there to support her. Earlier this year, the Grease singer also suffered from sciatica, which is intense pain to the lower back and legs caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve. As was mentioned in her recent statement, the condition caused her to postpone the first leg of her tour.
Chloe Rose came to the aid of her mother, and updated fans of her condition, writing on Instagram: “hey everyone. I just wanted you know my mom is ok for those that have enquired. She’s a fighter. Always has been. Thank u for your love and concern. I’m passing your love onto her. Thank you guys. We love you.”
On June 1st, Chloe Rose released a statement on her Instagram that read: “My mom and best friend is going to be fine! She will be using medicine that I often talk about. CBD oil (cannabidiol oil!) And other natural healing remedies plus modern medicine to beat this. Cancer is the disease of our generation and it is a part of my and my mother’s quest to beat this insidious monster. We both love you all, and anyone fighting this disease you can beat it. Look for natural remedies as well as what modern medicine can offer. My mom is so powerful she will beat this in no time.”
