‘Saturday Night Live’ Cast Members 2017: Bobby Moynihan Leaving SNL

Bobby Moynihan is a beloved cast member on Saturday Night Live and fans have sometimes compared him to the late, great Chris Farley. Recently, Deadline reported that Moynihan’s sitcom Me, Myself and I was picked up as a series on CBS, so he has decided to quit SNL. This was Moynihan’s ninth season on SNL and tonight is his last show. Though Moynihan is leaving for a career opportunity, there are reports that this season was meant to be his last, regardless of his new show. Nellie Andreeva of Deadline stated:

Upon completing his standard seven-year SNL contract, I hear he had granted the show a two-year extension. I hear the current season had been planned as his final one on the show, which explains his availability for broadcast pilots. Moynihan received multiple offers, settling on Me, Myself & I.

According to CNN, in addition to being a cast member, Moynihan has also had his hand in a great deal of writing on SNL as well.

Fellow cast member Pete Davidson has expressed his sadness over Moynihan’s leaving in an Instagram post, writing yesterday that:

Tomorrow is our last show together. It breaks my heart. When I became a cast member you were really there for me and such a pal. I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without you. Over the past few years we’ve become great friends and I’m honored to have met you and have you in my life. You’re one of the funniest people I know and I’ll never forget the time we spent together on floor 17. Well wishes and continued success. I love you.

Davidson has just recently returned to the show, after spending time in rehab and he wasn’t shy to talk about his issues in some jokes during last week’s “Weekend Update” segment on SNL. In March 2017, Davidson revealed via social media that he had been relying on marijuana for years in order to help ease his symptoms of Crohn’s disease. On last week’s show, Davidson joked:

They say quitting drugs is hard and that is true, but what they don’t tell you is how boring it is. Whoever said there aren’t enough hours in the day was a liar. There are so many hours in a day — 24 to be exact, did you guys know that? ’Cause I thought there were only six.

Now let’s get back to Moynihan. Some of Moynihan’s most revered characters and impersonations on SNL have included Chris Christie, Newt Gingrich, Snooki, Guy Fieri, Ted Cruz and Drunk Uncle. Check out a couple of Moynihan’s best SNL skits in the below videos.
