Actor Johnny Galecki has lost his home after a wildfire tore through the San Luis Obispo, California, area on Monday night. According to TMZ, the fire also ripped through 1,200 acres, damaging Galecki’s property and other property in the immediate vicinity.
The Big Bang Theory star’s home was “burned to the ground,” according to the report.
The house is described as a “getaway home” and it is not believed to be Galecki’s primary residence. The ranch-style home is located about 190 miles outside of Los Angeles.
TMZ reports that Galecki has not been to the home since the fire broke out. Fire officials are not letting anyone near the area and have closed off roads around where the fire is. Sources told TMZ that Galecki is hoping to be allowed in the home soon, in case he is able to salvage any of his belongings.
The fire is said to be 40 percent contained at this time.
Last night, Galecki was out with his niece at a music festival. He posted a photo of them together, which you can see below. It’s unclear exactly what time the fire in San Luis Obispo broke out or when Galecki was told the news.
Galecki released the following statement to TMZ.
“My heart goes out to all in the area who are also experiencing loss from this vicious fire, the threat of which we live with constantly, which may seem crazy to some but we do so because living in our beautiful, rural area makes it worthwhile. It’s never the structures that create a community — it’s the people. And if the people of Santa Margarita have taught me anything it’s that, once the smoke has cleared, literally and figuratively, it’s a time to reach out and rebuild. We’ve done it before, and will need to do it together again, and it will make our community even closer and stronger. Endless thanks to CalFire and the Sheriff’s Office. I know you guys are fighting the good fight to keep us safe. So very relieved no one has been hurt.”
In July 2015, Galecki purchased Jason Statham’s home in Los Angeles for a whopping $9.2 million. According to Variety, the home is said to be around 5,000 square feet and boasts “six bedrooms, six bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, a library, office, eat-in kitchen with vaulted and beamed ceiling, and a professionally equipped screening room. There is additional living space atop a detached two-car garage.”
In March 2016, Galecki sold another property — his “starter home” — in the Hollywood Hills for 25 percent above asking price, according to the Los Angeles Times.
