Tonight is the premiere of Spike TV’s new series The Mist, based on Stephen King’s novella. The show follows a strange mist that rolls across a small suburban town, and the residents who inhabit that town as they try and maintain their sanity in its presence.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after the trailer was released, show creator Christian Torpe said, “I wanted to be respectful to the source material, but my feeling was there was already a great adaptation out there by Frank Darabont… The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story,” he says. The show will not use the grocery store many associate with the film version of The Mist— rather, it will take place in several different locations that are put on lockdown after the elusive threat becomes present.
