In a new interview, Angelina Jolie revealed that she was previously diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. The 42-year-old actress sat down with Vanity Fair for a candid interview about her life post-divorce. In that interview, she revealed that the past year has been tough on her health. Not only has she suffered from Bell’s Palsy, but she also has hypertension.

“Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health… I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had,” Jolie said.

Bell’s Palsy is described as a sudden weakness in one side of a person’s face. According to WebMD, the partial paralysis can happen to anyone and many people fear that they are having a stroke due to the similarities.

Over the years, research has shown that persons who have diabetes or who have recently had viral infections seem to be more prone to the condition. Fortunately, the symptoms are generally temporary.

Jolie revealed that she did acupuncture to help cure her of Bell’s Palsy and shared that she has fully recovered. Of her life and her overall health, Jolie stressed that she feels like “more of a woman” these days.

“I actually feel more of a woman because I feel like I’m being smart about my choices, and I’m putting my family first, and I’m in charge of my life and my health. I think that’s what makes a woman complete,” Jolie told Vanity Fair.

She also discussed the difficulty of the past year, moving forward with her six children and being a single mom.

“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air. [This house] is a big jump forward for us, and we’re all trying to do our best to heal as our family,” Jolie said.
