Lena Headey, the actress behind Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, is currently engaged to be married, as was revealed in a recent New York Times profile of her.
Headey had previously been married once and went through a tough divorce and custody battle which she says took her through a period of intense grief. This caused her to swear off marriage, but she ended up finding love again in Dan Cadan.
Here’s what you need to know about Dan Cadan, the fiancé of Lena Headey.
1. He is a Filmmaker
Like Lena Headey, Dan Cadan works in the entertainment industry.
According to his IMDB page, Cadan started his career by working for director Guy Ritchie, serving as a runner on the set of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and then as an assistant to Ritchie himself on Snatch.
Cadan has since worked on a number or projects with Madonna. He was second unit director on her 2005 documentary I‘m Going to Tell You a Secret, and he was camera operator on her concert film Madonna: Sticky & Sweet Tour. In addition, he and Madonna co-wrote her 2005 film Filth and Wisdom.
At the moment, Cadan is working on a comedy called Walk Like a Panther, which is about a group of wrestlers from the 1980s who try to save a local pub from closing.
2. He Directed Headey in a 2009 Short
Dan Cadan has directed Lena Headey on screen before.
In 2009, Cadan directed the short film The Devil’s Wedding, which starred Lena Headey as The Devil’s Wife and Pip Carter as The Devil. The short film is 15 minutes long, and it’s told completely in rhyme.
According to The Independent Critic, The Devil’s Wedding won the award for Best International Short Film at the 2010 Cleveland International Film Festival.
This short was created before Lena Headey starred in Game of Thrones but after she had already starred in 300 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. This production was not, however, how Lena and Dan met.
3. He & Headey Were Childhood Friends
Dan Cadan and Lena Headey, as it turns out, have known each other since they were kids.
This is a detail that was revealed in a recent New York Times profile of Lena Headey. According to The Times, Headey and Cadan have been friends since childhood, but they only started dating a few years ago.
It’s not exactly clear when their relationship began, but it would have been sometime between 2011 and 2015.
4. Headey Swore Off Another Marriage But Says She Fell Madly in Love
Lena Headey was previously married to musician Peter Loughran for six years. The two had a child together, Wylie Loughran.
Headey’s divorce from Loughran was quite brutal, as evidenced by the fact that a custody battle between them played out in the tabloids for a few months. Headey has said that she was struggling with grief after the divorce, and in some ways this was channeled into her performance as Cersei Lannister.
“It’s tough,” Headey said of her divorce in 2015, according to US Magazine. “There’s a lot of hurt and sadness and disappointment. Grief. Massive grief. It’s a mourning process, and yet nobody’s died.”
But then Headey fell madly in love again, and she expressed her joy with her Twitter followers in July 2015.
Headey was resistant to the idea of getting married again, though.
“I always said to [Dan Cadan], ‘Don’t ever ask me to marry you, it’s a disaster,’” Headey told The New York Times.
She went on to say, however, that being engaged to Dan Cadan actually feels wonderful. Cadan popped the question this past spring, and they plan to get married in the summer of 2018.
5. He & Headey Have a Child Together
Lena Headey and Dan Cadan have a child together, a two-year-old girl named Teddy.
For a long time after Lena Headey gave birth to her second child, nobody knew who the father was. When asked about this in interviews, such as a 2016 interview with US Magazine, she simply said, “I like to keep my personal life private.”
Fans only found out who the father was on July 5th, 2017, when The New York Times published its profile of Headey which mentions that she has a two-year-old child with her fiancé Dan Cadan.
