Fans are already excited about next week’s episode of Game of Thrones, “Stormborn.” The show returns at 9 p.m. Eastern on Sunday for Episode 2 in a seven-episode season. We’ve gathered all the photos/screenshots available for Episode 2 so far, and are analyzing them below. Come back to this story later this week, as we will add additional photos as HBO releases them.
This article will also include some dialogue from the trailer, to help provide context clues for the photos. Of course, this has spoilers for Season 7 Episode 2.
First, we see the gathering of the Lords of the North, again, meeting with Jon and Sansa sitting at the front.
But when Jon is warned that “A Targaryen cannot be trusted,” Jon does not look too happy. Is it possible that Sam has already sent a raven to Jon to tell him that dragonglass is in plentiful supply at Dragonstone? Maybe they don’t want to send anyone there because they don’t trust Targaryens after the Mad King.
We also see Cersei holding court. It appears that Jamie is standing by her side, like always. It feels kind of ridiculous, considering that she directly caused Tommen’s death. Maybe he still feels guilty about their daughter. Or maybe he believes her when she says Tommen betrayed her. It’s tough to believe he already forgave her, but Jamie is NOT smart where Cersei is concerned.
Cersei tells the group, smugly: “The Mad King’s daughter will destroy the realm.” But really, in this case, it seems like the REAL “Mad King” is Cersei, who acts like a Mad Queen. She is willing to destroy everyone just so she can live. And she is willing to do it with wildfire, just like the Mad King. She is his true successor.
Next, we see Daenerys and her people at Dragonstone, also planning their next steps. These scenes provided nice parallels of the main contenders for the throne and where they are meeting, and who their advisers are.
Yara is telling the group at Dragonstone: “We have an army of fleets and three dragons. We should hit King’s Landing now.” Dany is looking out over all their ships, but maybe not ready yet to go with Yara’s suggestions.
Here are some more photos from the trailer.
In the photo below, a very angry woman appears to be stabbing someone. Can you identify the woman in the photo? Is it a woman from Dorne perhaps? She seems to resemble one of the Sand Snakes, although it’s unclear who. Some fans think that it might be Tyene with longer hair, but the clip is so fast and kind of blurry that it’s really hard to tell.
This may very well be the photo we are most excited about. It looks like Arya is running into a direwolf. Could this be Nymeria?
If it is, will Nymeria remember Arya? Or is this another direwolf, a wild one that was never raised with the Starks?
We also see Yara and Ellaria kissing. That is an interesting pair.
And finally, Littlefinger is attacked. Who do you think is attacking him? And what did he say to set them off? Some think that from the hair, it’s Jon Snow attacking Littlefinger. Others have guessed Tormund.
