Music artist Keyshia Cole has joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood and she is putting her family front and center on the show. What’s most interesting about Cole’s home life is that she is living with her estranged husband, the former NBA player Daniel “Booby” Gibson. They continue to live together through their estrangement in order to co-parent their son, Daniel Hiram Gibson Jr., whose nickname is DJ. This makes for a unique situation, especially since the two are no longer a couple.
In the premiere episode of LHHH season 4, Gibson opens up about his relationship with ex Cole and his feelings about trying to fit into her life. He revealed that:
After the lying and the cheating, she still allowed me to be around my son every single day.
It definitely sounds like Cole is taking the high road and trying to keep her son as the number one priority in the situation. In an interview on E! Daily Pop, Cole explained her way of thinking when it comes to living with her ex. She stated:
I didn’t know my biological father coming up. So, it’s kind of a strong emotional situation for me because I want DJ to have everything that I didn’t. Even though he’s done a lot of things in the marriage that were the ultimate no-no, you know what? It’s not about me and him at this point. My son is seven, he needs his father. And Daniel is going through some financial things. I feel like, you know what? We’re co-parents. At the end of the day, if I can help in any way, I would want him to do it for me if I were in that predicament. And all that matters is that DJ is there with him and he gets to see him.
Cole then added:
We’ve been going through it for a very long time as far as the separation and then back together. That’s the reason why I ultimately made the decision of just making sure we go our separate ways. We don’t confuse things for him, but know that he still has both parents.
Gibson and Cole are not yet divorced.
