Tinsley Mortimer has been a bit of a lost soul, though a breath of fresh air, on Real Housewives of New York. Getting over her rocky past with ex Alexander “Nico” Fanjul, she decided to move back to New York City and stay with fellow RHONY co-star Sonja Morgan. Nervous about dating and venturing off on her own, she’s had a slow start to bounce back on her feet. Several times, Mortimer has opened up on the show about being involved in an abusive situation with her ex. So, what exactly was the situation?
About a year ago, Mortimer was arrested for trespassing at her ex’s Palm Beach home and recently, she opened up to People about the ordeal. But, this wasn’t the only incident in the relationship. On Christmas Day in 2013, Mortimer was reportedly hospitalized with head lacerations and she gave a police report, which stated that Fanjul grabber her arm. As a result of the arm grab, Mortimer said she lost her balance and hit her head. People reported that Mortimer said that the cause of the incident was that she tried to intervene during an argument between Fanjul and his younger brother. The officer on the scene reported that, “We saw that Tinsley had a laceration on the back of her head that was still bleeding . . . The left side of her face next to her eye was very swollen with yellow-and-green bruising. We also saw red and bruised markings on her forearms, biceps and elbows.”
In another police report, authorities showed up for a domestic dispute at Fanjul’s property. In the report, a neighbor signed a statement that they saw Fanjul “tackle” Mortimer and “push her head into the pavement.” Fanjul stated that Mortimer had attacked him as well. Then, there was a June 2014 police report in which Mortimer said Fanjul tried to smother her with a pillow. Page Six reported that Mortimer took an iPhone video of the incident and Fanjul reportedly “chased her, keyed the car, ripped off the windshield wipers and used them to break the windshield.” You can check out one of the police reports, which was posted by Radar Online by clicking here. After the couple’s relationship demise, a source revealed to People that:
Tinsley gets jealous and Nico can be a bully. He is aware of who he is and can push it around to a fault … She was way more serious about him than he was about her … Tinsley got the raw end of a relationship with him. They are not good together. She needed to move on a long time ago.
Fanjul’s family involves big-wigs in the Domino sugar industry. During Fanjul’s relationship with Mortimer, Mortimer says that:
He’s super fun, and we were always laughing.
But, after a year of dating, Mortimer revealed:
I started to notice there was this quick switch of anger. It’s honeymoon, then tension, and then it’s explosive … When it was good, it was so good … It took the arrest, the mug shot — all those painful things for me to recognize his lack of character. I will never put myself in that situation again … It was horrible. Being arrested was the only thing that broke me out of the cycle of violence. Now I’m done.
Mortimer was arrested in April 2016 for “trespassing” on Fanjul’s property as an uninvited guest while Fanjul’s new girlfriend was there, according to Page Six. At the time of the incident, Mortimer made a brief call to 9-1-1 for assistance in recovering her purse and credit card from Fanjul’s home. You can listen to the call in the below audio clip.
