HBO

In Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5, a letter surprisingly came into play that might set up a standoff between Arya and Sansa later on. What was in that letter? Read on to find out more.

This post has spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5.

Here’s the letter.

HBO

Here’s what the letter says:

Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.

This letter is real, but Sansa was forced to write it to Robb in Season 2, when she asked him to surrender to Joffrey.

Here’s the scene where Cersei made Sansa write the letter.

Littlefinger was there, watching the whole thing. That’s how he knew about the letter.

This scene has also revealed to us that Petyr Baelish is still very much in control of the chaos he’s been creating. He wanted Arya to see him receive that letter and mistakenly think that he was trying to keep it hidden. He wants to sow chaos in the Stark family and build a rift between Arya and Sansa.

Arya will read this letter and think that Sansa betrayed her family, not realizing Sansa was forced to write it.

As we saw in an earlier scene, Arya’s getting bloodthirsty and isn’t happy with Sansa right now. She doubts Sansa’s motives.

How do you think Arya will react to this letter? Let us know in the comments below.
