‘Rick and Morty’: Were the Vindicators Ever on a Previous Episode?

Adult Swim

Some fans are wondering, since this episode was called Vindicators 3, if we ever saw Vindicators 1 on Rick and Morty.

(Spoilers through the Vindicators 3 episode.)

No, we didn’t. The Vindicators have never been on the show before.

Vindicators 1 was an adventure that Rick and Morty went on “off screen.” And they never did go on the Vindicators’ second adventure because they weren’t invited. (And after watching tonight’s episode, we can see why.)

The show’s producers did give us some background on the Vindicators and on Worldender in a YouTube video. And the video about Worldender below is a lot funnier after you see the episode.

The members of the Vindicators were:

  • Alan Rails – Who can summon ghost trains
  • Million Ants – A collection of ants assembled by a cosmic queen
  • Crocubot – Maybe my favorite!
  • Supernova –  A celestial being who’s a bit unhinged
  • Star-Lord – The human leader in the group

Despite the title, we didn’t see these heroes in action before. And apparently, quite a few of their members died during the Vindicators 2 adventure that Rick and Morty weren’t invited to join.

A great part of the episode was how many times Rick basically explained that he could have solved their adventures much better than they did. And with fewer casualties! It was also interesting to see how Supernova really wasn’t any better morally than Rick is (considering that she destroyed an entire planet just to kill one shapeshifter.) This was a truth that Morty didn’t want to accept, but that Rick was pretty insistent about from the beginning.

It would be nice to have a short webisode about Rick and Morty’s first adventure with the Vindicators.
