Longtime CMAs host and music artist Carrie Underwood and her hubby caught a little heat when husband Mike Fisher put up a post about hunting on his Instagram account. And, after receiving some criticism, Fisher wrote this in the comments of his post, “Wow! That backfired a little!! Most don’t understand hunting actually protects the deer population.” Below is the video that got Fisher in some hot water.
Fisher and wife Carrie Underwood have been married since 2010 and they have one child together. As reported by People, the couple married at Georgia’s Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation resort and their son Isaiah was born in 2015.
Earlier this year, Fisher announced that he was retiring from professional hockey and he wrote about the tough decision in a letter via The Tennessean. When talking about leaving his 17-year career, he wrote, “This job I’ve been able to have for a majority of my life is so much fun. To help create that entertainment and to see the joy we can bring to people is such a unique and exciting opportunity. I’ll miss my teammates, my coaches and the game itself. This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I know I’ve made the right one. I’ve decided to retire from the NHL … Endings are always tough, but I believe when something ends, there are new beginnings, new opportunities and new things to be excited for, too.”
In response to her husband’s open letter and decision to retire, Underwood showed her support for him online, saying that she and their son look forward to having him home more now. Underwood stated, “Captain Mike Fisher, I sure am going to miss watching you play and cheering you on with the rest of Smashville, but I so look forward to seeing what God has in store for you in this next chapter of your life. You’ve given your teammates and the game your all for so many years. You’ve worked so hard and made us all so proud!” Read the full message in the below Instagram post from Underwood.
With Fisher now having time away from hockey, he was able to attend his wife’s hosting gig at the CMA Awards tonight. It is a big night for Underwood. In addition to hosting and performing, she is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and she is being honored with the International Artist Achievement Award. Other performers for the night include Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Luke Bryan … the list goes on and on. This is the tenth year in a row that Underwood has teamed up with Brad Paisley to host the CMA’s. Generally, they open with a dialogue and a tune that pokes fun of what’s going on in our country. Underwood told USA Today, “We love being the faces of the CMAs, but it’s also a great responsibility. We’re just so proud of country music, and want the world to see what we’ve got.”
