Malcolm Young Leaves Behind Wife Linda & Two Kids in Death

Guitarist and founder of rock band ACDC, Malcolm Young, has passed away at the age of 64, following a long struggle with dementia, according to Metro. In the wake of Young’s death, his family has released the following statement, “It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Malcolm Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Malcolm had been suffering from Dementia for several years and passed away peacefully on Saturday with his family by his bedside … While thanking all for their overwhelming support and heartfelt condolences, the family ask that you respect their privacy during this time of heartbreak and grief … The family have asked instead of flowers to send donations to The Salvation Army.” Young’s band ACDC, along with his brother Angus, have posted about their own grief on the band’s official Facebook page, writing that, “Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young … As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever. Malcolm, job well done.”

In addition to his brother, Young left behind a wife named Linda, children and grandchildren. Young and his wife had two children, a son and daughter named Cara and Ross. According to Who’s Dated Who, the Youngs married in on December 27, 1979 and were together for close to four decades. In 2010, Young gave away his daughter Cara at her wedding to husband Josh Wolf.

Young was diagnosed with dementia in 2014 and temporarily left ACDC to receive treatment for his illness. Unfortunately, Young’s disease progressed and he ended up retiring from the group. Then, in 2015, he and wife Linda purchased a multi-million-dollar, new waterfront property, in Palm Beach, Sydney, as reported by Daily Mail. Young’s condition evidently worsened and he was moved by his wife and family into the Lulworth House, which is an aged care facility until his death.

Billboard has reported that signs of ill-health were apparent in Malcolm Young back in 2008. His brother Angus reportedly started noticing things were off when working on ACDC’s album “Black Ice”. Angus Young revealed in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s 7.30 show that, “When we were writing songs together, me and him, it was noticeable. Malcolm was always very organized. It was kinda strange because it the first time I’d ever seen him disorganized, being confused about a lot of things. That’s when it hit me that something’s not right with him. When we were actually doing that album, yeah it became even more prominent and then he would be confused just travelling somewhere and stuff.” Angus said his brother Malcolm kept writing until he “couldn’t go any longer”. And, according to Ultimate Classic Rock, Angus said that his brother’s dementia was not his only ailment. He explained, “He had quite a few things. He had a lung operation; he had a heart operation. He seemed to get everything hit him at once, besides his dementia.”
