How Long Is ‘The Walking Dead’ Tonight? [Midseason Finale]

AMC

Tonight is Season 8 midseason finale of The Walking Dead. Two weeks ago, the episode with Negan and Gabriel may have been the best episode of the season yet. Last week may have been a little slower, but it was still fascinating to watch Daryl finally defy Rick completely, while Rick sought to bring the Scavengers back into the fold. AMC has been teasing that the midseason finale is going to be especially intense. Recently, we’ve been treated to some extra long episodes this season, and tonight’s episode won’t be any exception.

Tonight’s midseason finale of The Walking Dead will be extra long, clocking in at 88 minutes. That means it’s running from 9 p.m. Eastern to 10:28 p.m. Eastern. This isn’t the first time an episode for The Walking Dead has run long. In fact, it happened a number of times last season and this season. In Season 7, the midseason premiere was 73 minutes long. Even this season’s premiere was 67 minutes long, giving fans an extra seven minutes of runtime. The description for tonight’s episode reads: “Every story and battle from the first half of the season comes crashing together in this action-packed, emotional mid-season finale.”

It looks like Negan and Rick will finally be facing off again. Will Eugene stay true to Negan until the end? Will Dwight survive and turn against Negan one more time? Will the recent tension between Daryl and Rick cause problems if there’s a showdown between Negan and Rick? Rick’s plan to get the Scavengers on his side might already be facing issues thanks to Daryl’s impatience at seeing the Sanctuary go down. Meanwhile, the Hilltop has issues of its own as it tries to keep control of all the Sanctuary survivors. Maggie’s planning to use them as bargaining chips if needed, and then is going to kill them if they’re not needed for that reason. But Jesus isn’t too happy about that idea. And while all that is going on, Carl has brought someone new back to the group. Is he all that he appears to be?

After the episode tonight airs, Talking Dead will air immediately afterward. Last week, Talking Dead revealed that Morgan is going to be crossing over to Fear the Walking Dead. Fans aren’t quite sure how that’s going to work out timeline-wise. But the character is a fan favorite, so it should be fun to see. Here is a preview for tonight:
