CBS

Today at Comic-Con, a Star Trek panel introduced us to more information about Star Trek: Picard. Here’s a rundown of some of the best reveals that excited fans are learning about Patrick Stewart’s first return to the Star Trek universe.

When Patrick Stewart was first announced during the panel, the audience cheered like crazy. Here’s a look at the cast gathered together for the panel:

The announcer yelled: “Jean-Luc is in the house!”

Picard is back!

We learned that Stewart has been a collaborator with the writers from beginning, Michael Chabon said. Producer Kirsten Beyer said: “It’s an extraordinary opportunity to see the most unknown part of his (Picard’s) journey.”

Stewart had previously turned down returning several times, but when he saw what was planned this time, he couldn’t say no, the panel shared.

Alison Pill said her character was a researcher deeply confused about her place in the world.

She also said that “everyone is pretty broken in terms of their character.”

Michelle Hurd, who plays Rocky, said this show looks at Picard’s past as he struggles with some personal demons.

Alex Kurtzman noted: “We are shaking up the character (Picard) while staying true to who he is…” Picard, he added, is an entirely different story than Discovery. “Picard is questioning many of the decisions he has made.”

Kurtzman added: “Picard represents the ideal captain not just as a philosopher, but as a human being.”

Of course, any Star Trek fan would expect no less of Jean-Luc Picard. Kurtzman said: “He is the leader we all need… Every line Picard says has to represent a philosophy.”

But this is not a sequel of The Next Generation, Akiva Goldsman said. “It’s slower, more lyrical, more character-focused.”

This is a “darker time” the panel says, but Picard is still standing for what is important.

However, Kurtzman added that this isn’t a darker version of TNG. Picard has to do some soul searching and his life has changed. He doesn’t have the same resources anymore.

One of the most exciting bits of information shared was that Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis will be returning. Welcome back Riker and Troi! (This also means the theories that Riker had died, thus why Picard’s dog is named Number One, are likely not correct unless Riker is in a flashback of some sort.)

And let’s not forget that Brent Spiner and Jeri Ryan were on the panel for Picard too!

So yes, it looks like Data and Seven of Nine will be in the series too.

A trailer was shown that included Data, Seven of Nine, Romulans, and a Borg Cube. What?! This sounds incredible.

It’s going to be amazing.

This is a developing story…
