Rejoice, Bachelor Nation! The Bachelorette is finally premiering after the COVID-19 pandemic sent TV production scrambling. Because of that, the show was filmed in a contained location — we are excited to see how production got creative with the dates. All the fun starts Tuesday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour premiere on ABC. Follow along here with our live recap but be warned of spoilers.
Also, if you are really curious about spoilers, as always — there have been some leaks from filming, so click here if you want to find out the most likely final four.
All times Eastern.
8:00 — Y’all, we did not know how badly we were missing some Bachelor/ette content on our TV until we were so for tonight. Also, Clare Crawley is one of our fave ladies in franchise history. Her “Dr. Doolittle” schtick Bachelor in Paradise still makes us giggle. And this season looks like it is going to be EPIC.
8:05 — Um, do you HEAR that one guy disparagingly call her the oldest bachelorette?! This 39-year-old Bachelorette fan would like a word with that man-child.
8:10 — Things kick off with a video package of Clare’s journey to becoming the bachelorette. It’s very emotional, though watching her snub Juan Pablo Galavis was sweet. He was the WORST. But she says she’s proud of who she is and she wouldn’t be who she is without all those bad experiences along the way. It sounds cliched, but that “Broken Road” song by Rascal Flatts is so true.
Oh my goodness, I did NOT know that her mom has Alzheimer’s. And she lost her dad really young to brain cancer if I recall from her season of The Bachelor. Oh, that is just heartbreaking.
8:20 — Bring on the men! The initial footage is of them in quarantine. Hey, now they know what it’s like to be on Big Brother! There’s a guy named Yosef and it’s going to be REAL hard not to call him “Brosef.”
8:40 — Forty minutes in we finally get to watch the men’s arrivals! You’d think this was a three-hour premiere what with how much they’re dragging this out, but it is not. Just two hours tonight. Anyway, highlights from the limo arrivals include Jordan, a very, very tall man whose pants are very, very short. As a tall woman who has trouble finding pants, I sympathize, but in a suit, that looks ridiculous.
8:55 — There is a bearded man named Blake who seems just super excited to be there, it’s adorable. There’s a
man boy named AJ who seriously looks like he’s about 14. A very handsome man named Eazy rocks the hell out of a pink suit.
9:00 — One guy rolls up in a bubble, one guy wears a straitjacket, one shows up with a parachute like he just jumped out of a plane. It’s… a lot. Finally, Dale Moss shows up and if you haven’t heard — keep your eye on this one. It’s a lovely first meeting between them.
9:10 — At the cocktail party, Clare gets emotional talking about her mom. She’s tired of having to be strong all by herself all the time. Oof. I just want to be Clare’s best friend and give her a big hug.
9:20 — Meanwhile, Tyler says he has a secret about Yosef. Ooooh, secrets! Secrets, secrets, are no fun… except on reality TV. Then they are SUPER fun. So Tyler takes Yosef off for a chat and tells him he knows girls who Yosef has been hitting up on social media, which causes Yosef to go to Clare directly and she gets Tyler and it’s time for a pow-wow.
9:30 — They sit down and Tyler tells Clare that a friend of his was getting chatted up on social media by Yosef. Yosef wants brownie points for bringing it up to Clare and says his intentions are true. He also drops a mention of his daughter, which smacks of someone who figures out sexual harassment is bad when he has female children.
9:35 — Clare bonds with Blake over the fact that he messaged her while they were all quarantining, which risked his spot on the show, and it meant the world to her. Awwww.
9:40 — We ARE getting a rose ceremony tonight, even though Clare didn’t even get to talk to some of the guys one-on-one. Yikes. The ones who didn’t even get to have a conversation with her are pretty mad about that and rightly so. Also, in what is no shock to anyone, Dale got the first impression rose.
9:53 — Love how they’re not even pretending it’s still nighttime. Hee. Time for some eliminations. Also, can they turn up the AC? These guys are SWEATY. Anyway, there are 23 roses given out. The guys who are headed home are AJ, Chris, Jeremy, Jordan M., Mike, Page, Robby, and Tyler C.
10:00 — The credits sequence is Clare and Chris Harrison dragging the suit of armor out of the driveway. It’s a shame they couldn’t find a raccoon to edit into this sequence giving them instructions or something like the raccoons in The Great Outdoors.
The Bachelorette now airs on Tuesdays because Dancing With the Stars is in its usual Monday night slot, so tune in every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
