10. Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven (Zero: Nuregarasu No Miku) – Wii U
We’re pretty disappointed in the fact that this Fatal Frame sequel is a Japanese Wii U exclsuive. If you’re willing to buckle down and spend some extra import bucks, go ahead and bring this ghostly game over to your dark living room. You’ll have to keep your wits about you as you use your Wii U Gamepad to spot restless spirits. The fun camera battle gameplay returns here and the Japanese horror themes from past entries gets even more horrifying here.
9. Alien: Isolation – Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Xenomorphs scary the holy hell out of us. One super slimy, always-hidden-in-the-vents Xenomorph with an appetite really freaks us out. This survival horror take on the Aliens movie franchise is the perfect FPS crawl through a decrepit space station. We love the claustrophobic feel of this game and the fact that this one alien adapts to your playstyle. Keep hidden, avoid those Worker Joe’s and make sure you don’t catch a sharp tail through your chest.
8. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis – Sony PlayStation, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube, PS3 (PSN), PC
STARS! One of the most resilient monsters ever seen in the Resident Evil series is the dreaded but beloved Nemesis. Jill Valentine had to deal with this latest Umbrella Corporation bio-weapon throughout the entirety of this great RE sequel. Nemesis kept us on out toes as he slammed down doors and shot rockets at us with reckless abandon. The rest of the game’s horror elements are improved with the added fear factor due to the massive Nemesis.
7. Doom 3 – Xbox 360, Xbox, PS3, PC, Mac, Linux
It’s the year 2145. The vivacious denizens of Hell have taken over a space base set on Mars. You and your huge arsenal of big guns come in handy as you shoot these evil demons in the face. While you might feel safe blasting these demons with your BFG, the fear factor gets trumped up once you switch your gun to a flashlight. As soon as a demonic portal opens up in the floor, switch quickly! SHOOT IT!
6. The Evil Within – Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind the Resident Evil series, used his survival horror genius to craft this new title. The Evil Within will just break you down mentally as you delve into the darkest corners of police detective Sebastian Castellanos. Your ammo supply is light and First Aid resources are really scarce. So it’s best to shoot down your pursuers and run like hell! This game’s boss fights are legendary, so prepare for some intense gunplay and running.
