Greg Miller, Co-Workers Leave IGN

Greg Miller, editor and face of IGN, announced today through his Patreon his departure from the video game journalism website. Fellow editor Colin Moriarty and video producers Nick Scarpino and Tim Gettys quit as well.

The four are known for their recent venture into making conversational style YouTube videos under their brand, Kinda Funny, supported by funds from Patreon.

Previously, Miller and others were discouraged from talking about topics such as games, movies, TV, comics and others outside of IGN by their employer, Polygon reports. According to the group’s new Patreon, Kinda Funny Games, they’ll be making more content than ever, including daily Twitch streams, games podcasts and Let’s Plays.

“We’ve had a lot of support from fans just talking about things no one really cares about, like hot dogs,” Miller told Polygon. “Now we can talk about the things that we are really known for, like games, comics, Superman and Mega Man.”

Personally, I’m shocked by this announcement, as I thought Miller would be at IGN forever. Still, this move makes sense considering the income Kinda Funny is raking in through Patreon, and diving into it full-time will only make them grow. I wish Miller and company the best of luck.

Update: Max Scoville, previously of Destructoid and Rev3Games, just announced via Twitter his new job at IGN.
