‘Pokemon Go’: How to Get Kangaskhan, Tauros, Farfetch’d & Mr. Mime

Live in the United States and want a Mr. Mime in Pokemon Go? You’ll have to either hatch an egg or catch a flight to Europe. (Reddit/leithz6)

As Pokemon Go players take to the streets and try to catch them all, there are four Pokemon in particular that will raise some problems: Kangaskhan, Tauros, Farfetch’d and Mr. Mime. How can you get these?

Well, as it turns out, these are the only four Pokemon in the game that are region specific. Tauros is only available in North America, Mr. Mime is only available in Europe, Farfetch’d is only available in Asia, and Kangaskhan is only available in Australia. If you’re playing the game outside of these places, don’t expect to see any of these exclusives out in the wild at this time.

There have been some reports that it’s possible to hatch these Pokemon from eggs regardless of what region you’re in, but so far, nobody has been able to definitively prove this. It seems that either you only can hatch the region-specific Pokemon from 5km or 10km eggs very, very rarely, or you can only hatch them in those eggs in the regions where they’re already catchable.

There has been a lot of debate about this online, and it’s one of those Pokemon Go secrets that’s still being worked out. If you’ve had any luck getting these Pokemon outside of the given regions, let us know in the comments section below.

Otherwise, it seems like your only surefire way of getting all 145 Pokemon is to book several flights around the world. If that sounds crazy, well, one player recently did it, becoming the first person to get all the Pokemon currently available in the game.

If you want to give hatching the region-specific Pokemon a whirl, first you’ll need to obtain some eggs from Poke Stops. Once you have an egg in your possession, follow these steps in order to hatch it and receive a Pokemon:

  • Click the Poké Ball in the bottom of the screen.
  • Choose “Pokémon.”
  • Choose the “Eggs” tab.
  • Select an egg.
  • Choose “Start Incubation.”
  • Select an incubator. (Note: The game starts you off with one incubator, but you can acquire more through Poké Stops or by buying them at the shop. One incubator can only be used to hatch three eggs.)
  • Take note of the number of kilometers listed under the egg. This is the real-life distance you need to walk in order to hatch the egg. You must now walk around while the Pokémon Go app is open, and after you reach the set number of kilometers, the egg will hatch and give you candy (plus a new Pokémon!).
