So you’re out there trying to be the very best when you get in a bit over your head and many of your Pokémon end up dangerously low on health. Don’t worry; we’ve all been there. Unfortunately, because the game’s tutorial is rather barebones, you may not be clear on what the next step is and how you can tend to your injured Pokémon.

Well, here’s what you need to do before going back into battle on behalf of your Pokémon Go team.

You have two main options: Potions or Revives. Both of these are items you can find by tapping the Poké Ball at the bottom of the screen and then selecting “Items.” The game doesn’t start you off with any potions or revives, but you may have some in your inventory if you’ve visited Poké Stops.

If your inventory is empty, then that’s your next step: Visit a Poké Stop. These are the real-life locations where you will get a bunch of random items upon visiting; they’re usually local landmarks, and you can see a map of some right here.

Potions and Revives are not available in the shop, so visiting Poké Stops is your only option.

Got your item ready? Here’s the next step: Go to your “Items” menu, select “Potion” or “Revive,” and then tap the Pokémon you want to use it on. Note: You can only use a potion if the Pokémon is not yet fainted; if it has fainted, use a revive.

And that’s about it! Your Pokémon will be good to go. As you can see, it’s extremely important to continuously visit Poké Stops and stock up on items so you never find yourself short on potions and revives.
