‘Overwatch’ Getting Summer Olympic-Themed Loot Boxes

Overwatch Olympic Skins

It appears that Blizzard’s Overwatch is getting in the spirit of the Summer Olympics.

According to VG247 and Twitch streamer LacedUpLauren, Blizzard has been sending out Summer Olympic-themed Overwatch care packages to Youtubers and streamers to kick off their Overwatch Summer Games. Those care packages not only contain posters and other goodies, but also loot boxes that contain new skins, sprays, voicelines and more. A listing for these loot boxes has since shown up on the British Playstation Store, and although they are yet to be made available on the US store, it’s likely that they’ll make their way to the states soon.

These new skins include a Weightlifting Zarya, Track and Field Tracer, a fencing Genji, and a BMX-themed Reaper, as well as many others. In total, there are more than 100 potential seasonal items that players may receive from the mystery loot boxes.

The loot boxes can be earned by playing as normal, or purchased with real-world currency. Unfortunately, they can’t be bought with in-game credits, and many players are not happy about this considering that said credits are what players receive for trading in duplicate items. Each box contains four items, at least one of which is guaranteed to be a Summer Games item, and can be purchased for £1.69 (which equates to $1.99 USD). They will be available until Monday, August 22nd at 11:59 PT, right after the closing ceremony of the Rio Games.
