In Pokemon Go, one of the items you can receive from Poke Stops is called a Razz Berry. What exactly is this, and how can players make the best use of it?
Razz Berries are essentially items that make it easier to catch high leveled Pokemon. The higher CP a Pokemon has, the more likely it is to be able to escape your Poke Balls. When activated, the Razz Berries make a capture significantly more likely.
But you can’t make use of a Razz Berry until you’re actually in the process of catching a Pokemon. Here’s what you need to do once you are in a Pokemon encounter:
- Go to your inventory by hitting the backpack button in the bottom right of the screen.
- Scroll down and select a Razz Berry.
- The Razz Berry will now appear on screen in front of the Pokemon. Tap the Razz Berry to activate it.
Now go about your Pokemon catching as usual, and this item will increase your likelihood of catching the creature. The Razz Berry effect lasts until you are able to hit the Pokemon, so if you completely miss, the Razz Berry benefits will still be present on your next throw.
However, although the Razz Berries make a Pokemon capture more likely, it does not guarantee it, and the Pokemon can still break out. If that happens, the Razz Berry effect expires, and you’ll have to use another Razz Berry item before throwing another ball. Note that the Razz Berry doesn’t actually affect your throws in any way; it just lowers the likelihood that the Pokemon will be able to break out of the ball once you’ve hit it.
If you want to stock up on Razz Berries, you’ll want to visit as many Poke Stops as possible; according to data collected by The Silph Road users, about 7.5 percent of all items given out at Poke Stops are Razz Berries, although there is speculation that Niantic has changed this drop rate in recent days.
In addition to that, you will be given some Razz Berries when you level up. You won’t start getting them until you reach level 8, but after that, you’ll be given at least one Razz Berry every single time you reach a new level.
