Images of the antagonists in Pokemon Sun & Moon were released today. Team leaders include Guzma and Plumeri, who appear to confirm fan theories that they are based off pirates. A chart released by Redditor FlyByTieDye shows the pirate pieces adorning the characters.

It wouldn’t be the first antagonist team in the Pokemon universe to be based off pirates. In Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald team Aqua was also based off pirates. However, while Team Aqua’s goal was to “expand the amount of water in the world by awakening Kyogre,” the legendary orca Pokemon, Team Skull’s modus operandi is still not known.
The announce of Team Skull came today with the release of four new Pokemon and two new Alolan Forms, including a Dark-type Meowth and a Fire/Ghost-type Marowak.
The release killed the PokeDex “leak” on 4Chan with the introduction of the baby Bewear Pokemon “Nuikoguma,” which was not featured in the “leaked” PokeDex.
