‘Pokemon Go’ September 13th Update: What Did It Change?

Pokemon Go niantic, Pokemon Go app, Pokemon Go game,

The new Pokemon Go update has just been released. (Niantic)

A new update for Pokemon Go has just been released. What’s different this time?

In Niantic’s update, which started to be rolled out on September 10th but hit most app stores on September 13th, a major new feature has been added called the buddy system. This allows trainers to pick one of their Pokemon as a “buddy,” and this Pokemon will then walk around with them throughout the game.

The idea is that you’ll earn candy by walking in real life, similar to the way that you can hatch eggs by walking a certain amount of kilometers. That candy can in turn be used to evolve your Pokemon, so it serves as a great way of evolving creatures without having to capture more of its species and trade them to the professor. Besides, it’s just a cool way to form a bond with one of your favorite Pokemon.

The patch has also apparently fixed a glitch where the egg hatching animation would not appear for some players. As well, Niantic says it is now easier to select small Pokemon, Pokemon Go Plus support is being rolled out, and of course there are minor text fixes.

Here are the full patch notes from Niantic:

Trainers,

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.37.0 for Android and 1.7.0 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

– Implemented Buddy Pokémon: Trainers will now be able to choose one of their Pokémon to be their buddy. A Trainer can earn Candy for their Buddy Pokémon by walking a certain distance.
– Made it easier to select smaller Pokémon on the screen.
– Fixed an issue where Eggs would sometimes hatch without displaying the animation.
– Improved performance reliability when a device switches networks to no longer cause the application to hang or stop updating.
– Pokémon GO Plus support
– Minor text fixes.

We continue to focus on eliminating bots and scrapers from Pokémon GO. Rooted or jailbroken devices are not supported by Pokémon GO. Remember to download Pokémon GO from the official Google Play Store or iTunes App Store only.
